Open the driver's side door on the 2003 Buick and locate the diagnostic link connector (DLC) underneath the dashboard. On a LeSabre and Park Avenue, the DLC is located under the dash to the left of the steering column. On the Century and Rendezvous models, Launch X431 the DLC is under the dash directly beneath the steering column. On the Buick Regal, the DLC is located under the dash to the right of the steering column.

Plug the OBD II scanner/eraser into the DLC. Because of the DLC's shape and the shape of the plug, there is only one correct way to plug it in.

Place the key of the Buick into the ignition and turn the key to the accessory power position. OBDSTAR Scanner This position illuminates the lights on the instrument cluster and powers all the accessory components without the engine running. It will also provide power to the scanner from the Buick's battery.

Press the erase button on the faceplate of the scanner. If the scanner is not equipped with an erase button, Auto Key Programmer follow the onscreen menu and use the scroll or enter button(s) to the erase codes or DTCs option and press the enter button.

Allow the onscreen menu of the scanner to default back to its main menu or display a "command sent" message.

Start the engine to the Buick and check the instrument cluster to ensure the SEL is no longer displayed. If it still is on or comes back quickly, the code(s) should be diagnosed properly and repairs made if necessary.

Electrical connections, especially those exposed to the outdoor elements, can be prone to corrosion. The corrosion can impede the flow of electricity and cause failure to the device that is being powered. PSA-COM Most often a basic cleaning on the male and female parts can remedy the dirty situation. Generally the male parts are pins or metal probes that fit into a female socket. Most outdoor electrical connectors are small and may require a small diameter metal brush. By following a basic method you can remove the corrosion and improve the connection.

Male Connectors

1
Connect a memory saver unit to the vehicle according to the manufacturer's instructions. Disconnect the negative battery cable, using a battery wrench.

2
Wipe the connector free of any dirt or debris using the clean rag. Pull the connector apart exposing the female socket and the male probes or pins. gm tech2 Observe the condition of the male pins. A green or whitish powder on the pins indicates a corrosion problem. If the metal appears rusted and broken the entire plug assembly may have to be replaced.

3
Tear a small piece of the fine sandpaper, approximately one inch wide by two inches long. Buff or rub the pins with the sandpaper to remove the discoloration of the metal. You can wrap the small piece of sandpaper around the pin. Rotate the paper until a clean or shiny metal surface appears.

4
Brush the metal pins with the toothbrush. AUTEL MaxiSYS MS906 Apply a quick spray of the electrical contact cleaner to remove any dry dust or corrosion. Use vinegar to clean the pins if contact cleaner is not available. Brush the pins again to remove any left over debris.

5
Apply a spray coating of the contact lubricant. This will aid in keeping the corrosion at bay and increase the conductivity of the connector.

Female Connectors

1
Spray the contact cleaner into the female socket. Use vinegar if no cleaner is available.

2
Insert the small diameter steel brush into the socket. Autel MaxiDas Rotate the brush in a clockwise direction.

3
Continue to rotate the brush and then quickly pull the brush from the socket. This action will remove any debris in the orifice.

4
Continue with the process in step 2 and 3 with each individual pin socket. Keep the sockets wet with cleaner or vinegar as you are cleaning them out. You can simply dip the brush in vinegar every time you clean a socket hole.

5
Spray a generous amount, one to two seconds of pressing the spray button, of the contact lubricant into the socket. Reassemble the connector.

Read the instruction manual for the OBD II DTC reader and eraser. There are many varieties that feature different options and have different methods for reading and erasing codes.BMW ICOM A3 Pro+ While very easy to operate, the instruction manual will direct you how to properly use the reader.

Open the GMC Envoy's driver-side door and look under the dashboard to locate the OBD II connector.

Place the plug of the reader into the connector. Because of its shape, Launch X431  you can only plug it in one way.

Place the key in the ignition and turn the key two clicks forward to the accessory power position. This will illuminate the lights on the instrument panel without starting the engine of the Envoy.

Turn the power button on the reader (if equipped; most will turn on when the ignition key is turned to the "on" position).

Follow the steps from the instruction manual to read and erase the DTC(s). It is advisable to write the codes on a piece of paper.

Wait for the reader to tell you from the onscreen menu that the diagnostic trouble code has been erased,gm tech2  then unplug it from the connector.

Start the engine of the Envoy and look at the instrument panel to ensure the check-engine light is out.

The check engine light on the instrument panel of all cars sold in the United States since the mid-1980s is connected to a diagnostic computer that monitors the engine and other systems,SuperOBD SKP-900 especially emissions control. If one of the diagnostic sensor readings is outside a specified range, the computer turns on the check engine light. The computer also captures a code identifying the bad reading.

History

Computer monitoring using on-board diagnostic (OBD) processors began in the 1980s. The Clean Air Act of 1990 mandates that all vehicles sold in the U.S. after 1995 be equipped with an OBD system using a standard set of codes.Launch X431 The system is called OBD-II (on-board diagnostic, generation 2) in the industry. The codes captured by an OBD-II computer can be read with a code scanner.

Malfunction Indicator

The diagnostic system, whether OBD-II compliant or using the older, non-standardized,XPROG V5.70 OBD-I protocol, continually monitors an array of sensors. When a sensor reading is found to be "bad," the OBD computer illuminates the "Check Engine" light and stores a five-character code in memory. For a post-1995 Toyota Corolla, the OBD-II code can be read with a scanner. Pre-1996 Corollas require that a mechanic read a "blink code" to determine which sensor triggered the light.

Meaning

A lit Check Engine light is a general warning that your Corolla should be serviced as soon as possible.MB SD compact C4 Consult the owner's manual for specific instructions. Without a scanner or a blink code reading, it is impossible to determine the problem or its severity.
